The importance of Data Management in scientific projects has increased significantly over the past years. Historically, data management related activities were part of existing processes involving the ABiMS platform, mainly software engineering and bioanalysis. Over the recent years however, there have been demands for projects exclusively dedicated to data management, leading the platform to instate it as a separate and clearly identified process.
The main goals of Data Management projects is to actively support scientific communities throughout the successive stages of the research data lifecycle.
Frequent outcomes of Data Management projects are documents detailing how the data is handled at each of these stages (Data Management Plans), as well as dataset deposition in appropriate repositories (ENA, SeaNoe, Zenodo).
Some examples of Data Management projects lead by members of the ABiMS team:
- Management of metabarcoding time-series data collected at the SOMLIT-Astan sampling site.
- Coordination of the FAIR Data Management work package of the FUTURE-OBS PPR project.
- Management of the yearly releases of the BenthOBS and PHYTOBS national observation services.
- Deposition of the historical (1952 - 1999) temperature and salinity ASTAN time series.
